Brian McAnally found dead in Philadelphia group home.

On the date of July 28, 2016, Brian McAnally passed away in the group home he was living in. At the time of death, Brian was found dead in his dorm at the group home he was living in at the time. It was due to conditions regarding his health that he passed away. His mania had taken a turn for the worst despite getting emotional healing through therapy. Brian attended meetings with a behavior therapist and counselor on a regular basis. Despite all that, Brian was thriving in his group home better than he did at Eastern State School. Brian McAnally was 53. He left several family members behind whom he hadn’t seen for years.

In 1983 (after Brian McAnally turned 18), he was moved to a brand new group home which was located 4 blocks away from his fathers home in Kensington, Pennsylvania near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania after living in Eastern State School for 4 years. Brian was thriving and doing pretty well in his group home better than he did at Eastern State School. He wasn’t as anxious or aggressive despite having been diagnosed with mania and schizophrenia earlier in his life. Later on, he was diagnosed with mental retardation.

    2. Greetings. Jerry is alive and well in Lake Havasu City, Arizona. His life has been a struggle, but he has won out over homelessness & alcoholism. However, he has been employed for 13 years within our multi-dealership auto group. Our owners and employees have taken him under our wings. It's actually a great story. We love and care about Jerry. Jerry is sitting here with us as this is being written. He is in good health, lives on his own, and pays his own bills. A true success story.

    6. Randy: Thank you for the update, it was very encouraging. I am so glad people are taking the time to help rather then just cast someone aside. Your all truly making a difference. Way to go Jerry! You must have an internal strength that dwarfs that of many others.

  3. What about Linda, Brian's girlfriend?

    1. Thanks for commenting, Drew. It's great to hear feedback from commenters.

Linda Nixon was Brian's girlfriend who was considered a childhood friend to Brian. They were childhood friends who grew up together in the same neighborhood in Philadelphia whom later became lifelong friends. She helped take care of Brian when Jim, his father, was unable to provide care. Linda Nixon later became his legal guardian after Jim passed away.

    2. Thank you for the info. I was curious as to whether she had married him or if they had children together or something like that. And if she was still living.

    3. Jim was married at one time. Yes. Brian's mother left him when Brian himself was 2. That was discussed in the Children of Darkness documentary in 1983.

    4. Thank you so much for the updates. Personally I was so glad to here Linda stuck with him. A real romantic relationship seems pretty unrealistic but the fact that she stuck by for so long is truly a sign of her character and their bond. I'm glad he did well in the group home and still had some support he clearly lived for, up right till the end. RIP

  4. No no. I mean what is up with Linda Nixon? Did Linda Nixon and Brian carry on a sexual relationship? Did Linda and Brian have children? Is Linda still living?

    1. Drew, I could not find out anything else about Linda Nixon other than she took care of him when Jim passed away. It it highly unlikely Brian and Linda had children. I am unaware about the whereabouts of Linda Nixon.

    6. Why would you even ask such a question?

    7. If you read my thread, I had to rephrase the question three times. The first time I asked it was tasteful and got the point across. Yet I had to get more detailed until I got my answer. So I don't care if you think it was weird for me to ask. That's that and I'm not getting into it with any of you.

  5. Do we know anything more about the Diane girl that was spoken about briefly. I don't believe they gave her last name but they did say she was from Tucson and that she got a scholarships University of Arizona. I was just wondering where she's at now.

  8. What ever happened to Billy? The clips of him hit me hard emotionally, considering the fact that he was put in there at the age of 7 and was 20 when the documentary was filmed. It made me angry that their only solution was to tie him up, but I bet the staff was exhausted. Did they ever continue with a lobotomy?

    1. Billy was institutionalized in Upstate New York. A lobotomy was never performed. Read about the update below. Copy and paste the text if the link below does not work.

  10. It's such a shame to learn of his passing, though I am very glad to hear that Jerry is doing well! His story broke my heart and I'm so happy that he was able to get through his life and is now settled. If he really was sitting beside you, please tell him that I'm rooting for him! He's incredibly strong.

  11. Wait. If Brian was 18 in 1983 he would be 51 in 2016, not 53. Something fishy here.

  14. So sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. Does anyone know if Linda continued to visit him until he died?

  15. About Denise: I've done a bit of research and some of it doesn't look good. I don't recall any part about just why she ended up in the facility, but after googling her name, some things come up, like this:

    https://www.oklahoman.com/article/2231982/mental-patient-escapes

It seems like too much of a coincidence for someone with her name and Eastern State Mental Hospital to be in the same article. Beyond this article, though, there doesn't seem like much more information about her.
