Prior to the 2000s, many people thought Texas was still stuck in the 1800s. Texas was politically backwards and socially inept to the rest of the United States, Canada, and other international countries around the planet Earth. Well those negative statements are very true indeed! Texas is still very backward in many ways.
Texas has always been a politically backwards and socially inept backwards place to most citizens of the United States. Texas politicians on the Republican, Democratic, Independent, and Libertarian side of the United States political spectrum have always been viewed as right-wing by many citizens of the United States, politicians, tourists, teachers, and professors. Texas is a hotbed for right-wing politics and right-wing extremism. Texas is home to many political nutjobs such as loony left-wingers, hippie environmentalist Libertarians, one-sided Independents, and of course, extremist right-wingers. You see, the state of Texas has been always been home to many extremist politicians such as Phil Gramm, Bob Krueger, Mark White, Rick Perry, Greg Abbott, Dan Quayle, John Cornyn, Anita Perry, and Kay Bailey Hutchison.
A huge majority of Texas residents are very conservative and very liberal politically, historically, and socially.
Extremism in politics and opinions of right-winged mind people is a common factor when it comes to Texas Politics.
That is how Texas as a state got its negative reputation as a socially and politically backwards state/place.
Prior to the 2000s, Texas was a place people talked down upon. News organizations such as the New York Times, Chicago Tribune, and LA Times used to slander Texas in the newspaper articles. They thought we were all country despite having a population of 20 million (20,000,000) at the time. Many people thought Texas was still stuck in the 1800s. Texas is politically backwards, environmentally insensitive, and socially inept to the rest of the United States. Well there is a reason for that statement being said because a huge majority of Texas residents are very conservative and very liberal politically, historically, and socially as I had said earlier before.
Texas was a place people talked down upon. Texas had a conservative reputation back in the days before the Internet. People often looked down on Texas back then. Texas was about as conservative as Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, New Hampshire, Maine, Montana, and Utah were back then. Texas was a place that people avoided despite people moving there all the time. Many conservative Baptists and Methodists had moved to Texas from the Deep South which made it into a more conservative place.
That is how Texas as a state got its negative reputation as a socially and politically backwards state/place.
