Ever since GM closed down their automobile manufacturing plants in Flint, Flint has gotten worse year by year. The city of Flint is going through a really rough time since GM pulled out a lot of manufacturing facilities and left a handful of only a few. Ever since GM closed down their automobile manufacturing plants in Flint, the effect on Flint was absolutely devastating!
Flint has gained notoriety for being a major violent crime center. The city of Flint is going through a really rough time with all the violent crime, drugs, and political corruption. Money Magazine had rated Flint one of the worst places to live in America in 1994. There's only 4 police officers to cover every 2 blocks. In fact, there are ONLY 6 officers in the Flint Police Department and now the City of Flint have to use the Michigan State Police to patrol Flint.
Nearly more than half of the city of Flint is on welfare and food stamps. Crime in Flint continues to grow! Flint has gotten worse year by year. Nearly more than half of the city of Flint is on welfare and food stamps. Money Magazine had rated Flint one of the worst places to live in America in 1987. Dallas News and Forbes had rated Flint one of the worst places to live in America in 2005.
Now as for political corruption and corrupt politicians in Flint…The city leaders did little or nothing to stop it. The city leaders did little or nothing to stop the illegal drug trade during the crack cocaine era. That had occurred in the 1980s. Politicians were in support of draconian laws for even for the most minor offenses that have proven to do more financial damage than any actual good. School board members closed down many great schools that were needed in the community. This statement is true for both public schools and private schools despite the facts that Flint's public schools were hit the hardest. Financial gains were more important than local political matters to them.
The politicians in Flint of course we're being dishonest and corrupt at that.
But the bright side is Flint as a city is rebuilding itself as a college town with educational establishments such as Kettering University, Mott College, Dort College, and University of Michigan - Flint. Not only is Flint rebuilding itself as a college town but they are refurbishing and rebuilding the Downtown area of Flint ever since the year of 2008. The downtown area is looking nice now. Clothing stores had opened up. Clothing stores have been there before.
Another bright side is that basketball is BIG in Flint, Michigan! Famous basketball players such as Glenn Rice, Desmond Farmer, Jermaine Smith, Jeff Grier, Desmond Farmer, Kevin Tolbert, and Lamont Green (LG) were produced in Flint as explained in the movie documentary Flinttown Kids in 2010.
Although Flint has gotten worse in 2015.
